Before you enquire

The API group is defined by saturates, sulphur and viscosity index, not by brand or origin, and a lubricant formulation approved on Group II will not simply run on Group I. Bright Stock is the Group I grade in structural short supply as refineries close, so a Group I blend that depends on it carries a supply risk the specification does not show. State the group and the viscosity grade together — either alone is ambiguous. Origin sits ahead of price into the EU. Since 21 January 2026 refined product made in a third country from Russian crude cannot be imported, and the importer evidences the origin of the crude, so establish the refinery and its crude slate at enquiry rather than at documents. Product from a listed partner country, or from a third country that was a net crude exporter the previous year, is treated as compliant.
