- 01 Grade — SAE 1006, 1008 or 1010 for low carbon; 72A or 82B for high carbon; CHQ for fasteners
- 02 Diameter and tolerance class
- 03 Coil weight and internal diameter — these must match the pay-off stand
- 04 Carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulphur and nitrogen ranges
- 05 Tensile strength range and reduction of area
- 06 Descaling requirement, and permitted surface scale weight
- 07 Decarburisation depth limit, for high carbon
- 08 Non-metallic inclusion rating, where the rod is drawn fine
